Continuing the Vendor spotlight in my wedding Ohana family, I'm so happy and excited to showcase this week a behind scenes feature of always exquisite event designer Erica Goldsmith owner of Couture Events Maui, She has such an eye for glamorous and stunning design for weddings with the perfect touch of fancy!. It's always a delight to work together and we have become very good friends with time. It's such an honor being able to capture how beautiful she is behind close doors and the adorbs family that surrounds and inspire her everyday. I must confess I develop a huge crush on her dog Kingston that was not forgotten in this lovely feature. Enjoy ;)
Tell us a little about yourself and your background. What brought you to Hawaii? I was born and raised in Washington and am a University of Washington Alumni (go Huskies!). However, I am totally an island girl at heart. We would often spend the summers at my Granny + Grandaddy’s house on the Big Island. I knew I wanted to live in Hawaii from the time I was a little girl playing M.A.S.H. (if you were born in the early 80’s you’ll totally know what I’m talking about).
What inspired you to become an event designer? I was the kid that was constantly changing my room around, decorating and wanting to help my mom throw parties. I think it was naturally my passion from the beginning!
What do you love about the island? Oh, my goodness there are soooo many things. Some of my favorites are waking up to rainbows, palm trees swaying outside of my office window, pink sunsets and of course, the aloha spirit!
What are your favorite things to do here? I love going to the beach with my kids, going on “ adventures” like taking a drive Upcountry for the day to go to the farmer’s market and succulent farm, watching football and entertaining. Since we don’t have a ton of family here, our friends have become like our family and we have a lot of get togethers. I love spending time with my family and friends.
What is the best part of your job? Taking a client’s vision and personality and turing it into this amazing, real life, dream come true wedding day. I love seeing the “ wow" on their face when they see everything for the first time. I truly feel honored that so many people have trusted me with the biggest celebration of their life!
What is your biggest advice for people who wish to pursue their dream and career? Just go for it! Life is short, pursue your dreams and start now!
What’s the one thing you can’t live without? My kids would tell you coffee, haha. I’ll tell you my amazing hubby, David, and my kiddos, Madison and Dylan.
Just for fun, what’s always in your purse? Besides the obvious?? My palm Swell bottle full of Valley Isle Kombucha (yes, I have a little kombucha obsession and we have a “kombucha-rator” in our house), Mac Lipstick, Buxom Lipgloss, Versace Roller Ball Perfume, essential oils and kids bandaids in case of an emergency, and a lot of kid toys that randomly end up in my purse! I think there might be a match box car and a kids magnifying glass in there right now!
